We are working on the radish seed graphs and analyzing the data. We are also evaluating the data. We are working on the rest of the vocabulary from the Unit One packet Mrs. DeJonge We are carrying out the pillbug investigation lab. Homework: vocab quiz Mrs. Smiggen and Mrs. DeJonge
We are checking the vocabulary pg. 24 in the Unit one packet and collecting one last day of data for the radish experiment. We are checking the lab safety information. We are reading the "What is Science, What is Technology?" article on the chromebooks using the jigsaw instructional method. Homework for Mrs. DeJonge: vocab. p.25 Mrs. Smiggen and Mrs. DeJonge
We are correct the pg 21-13 graphing homework from the Unit 1 packet. We continue to collect data on our radish seeds. We are going to complete the Daphnia lab by finishing data analysis, explanation, and evaluation. We will then collaborate as small groups depending on the drug tested and report our findings to the whole group. Homework: first ten vocabulary words from pg. 24 of the Unit 1 packet. Mrs. Smiggen and Mrs. DeJonge
Today we continue our work with the Daphnia investigation. We are introduced to the concept of data analysis. We graph the heart rate data we collected last week. We continue to collect data about our radish seeds. We discussed the syllabus and need to have it signed by a parent and returned on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Homework for both Mrs. Smiggen's and Mrs. DeJonge's classes is to complete pgs. 21-23 of our unit 1 packet. In Mrs. DeJonge's class, we go over the lab safety test and turn in the signed safety contract. Mrs. Smiggen assigned the lab safety test and contract for Wednesday. Mrs. Smiggen
We carried out the inquiry activity with the daphnia, testing the effects of caffeine, epinephrine, alcohol, and nicotine on their heart rate. We also collected data on our radish seeds. Classes were shortened today due to Pink Arrow. Mrs. DeJonge We collected data on our radish seeds. We went over the course organizer which gave us a big picture for the year. We also continued working on the daphnia lab. Homework: Read and complete the lab safety worksheets. Classes were shortened today due to Pink Arrow. Mrs. Smigen
We started setting up our lab notebooks and did the pre-lab work for the daphnia investigation. We are testing the effects of various drugs: caffeine, epinephrine, alcohol, and nicotine on the heart rate of daphnia. We watched a video clip of the daphnia. We continue to collect data on the germinating radish seeds. Mrs. DeJonge We were in the biology lab and tested the effects of various drugs on the heart rate of daphnia. We also collected data on the germinating radish seeds. 16Welcome to Biology.
Today you will be taking your Unit 1 Pre-Test. Please read these questions and answer honestly. This information will be used to determine how much time will be spent on each topic. If the class knows the information, then we will not spend as much time on that topic. Learning Targets for Unit 1: Knowledge 1. I can identify the steps of scientific inquiry in order. 2. I can determine the controls in an experiment. 3. I can determine the independent and dependent variables in an experiment. 4. I can determine the difference between an inference and an observation. 5. I can identify the characteristics of living things and explain how biology is a part of everyday life. 6. I can understand bioethics and give examples of how it is controversial in today's society. Reasoning 7. I can justify how I determined the observation that initiated the investigation. 8. I can justify how I determined the hypothesis that an experiment is designed to test. 9. I can justify a logical conclusion based on results/data of investigation. 10. I can defend/support a claim through evidence and reasoning. Skill 11. I can execute with precision a set of experimental procedures/steps. 12. I can design and conduct a testable experiment based on scientific principles. As well as taking the pre-test, we will begin working on scientific inquiry. We will form groups and begin our radish seed investigation that is found in the Unit 1 packet. We will look at the needs of seeds, plan the radish seed investigation, set up the experiment, and make our first observations. Learning Target Pre-Test Mrs. Smiggen Biology
Today we are going to be introduced to the chrome books and online resources we will be using throughout the year. We will go through the course organizer that will give us a big picture of the learning goals, content, vocab, and timeline of the class. We will read the "What is Science? What is Technology?" article and complete the questions in the packet. You will record data for the radish seed experiment. Mrs. DeJonge Today you will be completing pre-lab work for the Daphnia inquiry lab that you will be doing on Thursday. You will go down to the lab room and become familiar with lab set-up and equipment. You will complete the "Messing Around" background work for the Daphnia inquiry lab. |
